A plateau occurs when the body adapts to doing a certain thing, in this case exercise. When this happens, progress will slow or completely seize. On the average, most people will not reach that point until after 8-10 weeks. In order to avoid a plateau in any sport, including weight loss, a continuous change must be made in your workout routine so the body will start to progress again. Since our focus is weight loss, we'll talk about that. If you were to ride a stationary bike at the same speed and intensity for 8-10 weeks, you would see good results the first few weeks. After 5-6 weeks the results would not be as noticeable, and by the eighth week very little progress, if any, would be seen. If you follow the guidelines under Calculating Your Target Heart Rate, your body will tell you when you are ready to progress, simply because you will not be breathing as hard and your workout will be easier. This is why it is very important that you re-calculate your target heart rate every 14 sessions so that you continuously change in exercise intensity and avoid ever reaching a plateau. Another way to prevent a weight loss plateau is to change the equipment you are using for your fat-burning session. Work the bike for a couple of sessions and then the treadmill for a couple and so forth.

The same is true for resistance training. The body will progress to a certain point and then reach a plateau because your body is getting stronger. For example, if you did seated chest press with 20 pounds and  were able to do 20 repetitions with difficulty, the following week you may be able to do the same weight, but this time you can do 20 repetitions a little easier.

Since all people are different regarding physical condition, all of our programs are based on the amount of weight you can handle (lift).

So many people try to lose weight on their own and unfortunately suffer the consequences by negatively altering their metabolism, thyroid, and hormonal function. When this occurs weight loss becomes impossible and no diets will work. We can help YOU today!
